かさぶた

Almost always written in hiragana. The kanji 瘡蓋(かさぶた) exists but is rarely used.

Usage

Children are often told not to pick at their scabs: かさぶたを剥(は)がさないで (don't peel your scab off). Peeling a scab prematurely can cause scarring.
