ETYMOLOGY:
Literally 'nose is high,' evoking the image of someone holding their nose up with pride.

USAGE NOTE:
Typically used for positive pride, such as pride in family members' achievements, one's workplace, or hometown. It can also be used somewhat critically to describe someone who is overly proud.
