Buying goods with the intention of selling them at a higher price. In modern Japanese, often refers to the controversial practice of buying limited or popular items to resell at inflated prices.

USAGE:
転売(てんばい)する is the verb form. In modern usage, 転売(てんばい) strongly implies buying goods solely to resell at a markup, especially for concert tickets, limited-edition goods, and popular electronics. This practice is widely criticized in Japan.

Since 2019, Japan's チケット不正転売禁止法(ちけっとふせいてんばいきんしほう) (Act on Prohibition of Unauthorized Ticket Resale) makes it illegal to resell event tickets above face value.
