インバウンド became a major buzzword in Japan starting around 2015 as the government actively promoted foreign tourism. It is used as both a noun and a modifier. The term appears constantly in news, business, and policy discussions about tourism. The opposite concept (Japanese traveling abroad) is アウトバウンド.
