ATM card, bank card, cash card
A card issued by a bank that allows the holder to withdraw cash and check balances at ATMs. Distinct from a credit card.
Watch out
"Cash card" also exists in British English, but in Japan キャッシュカード means only a bank's ATM card. It is not a credit card.
Common patterns
- キャッシュカードで下ろす: to withdraw using a cash card
- キャッシュカードを作る: to get a cash card (when opening a bank account)
Usage
In Japan, many banks issue combined cards (一体型カード) that function as both a キャッシュカード and a credit card. キャッシュカード by itself does not have a credit function — it only provides ATM access.
