キャッシュカード

きゃっしゅかーど
noun
ATM card, bank card
1. ATM card, bank card, cash card
A card issued by a bank that allows the holder to withdraw cash and check balances at ATMs. Distinct from a credit card.
キャッシュカードでお(かね)()ろす。
To withdraw money with an ATM card.
キャッシュカードの暗証番号(あんしょうばんごう)(わす)れた。
I forgot the PIN for my ATM card.
口座(こうざ)開設(かいせつ)すると、キャッシュカードが郵送(ゆうそう)されてくる。
When you open an account, the ATM card is mailed to you.

Although the word looks like 和製英語(わせいえいご), "cash card" is used in British English as well. However, the 日本(にほん)独自(どくじ)用法(ようほう) is specific to bank-issued ATM cards.

COMMON PATTERNS:

  • キャッシュカードで()ろす: to withdraw using a cash card
  • キャッシュカードを(つく)る: to get a cash card (when opening a bank account)

NOTE:
In Japan, many banks issue combined cards (一体型(いったいがた)カード) that function as both a キャッシュカード and a credit card. キャッシュカード by itself does not have a credit function — it only provides ATM access.
