キャッシュカード
きゃっしゅかーど
noun
ATM card, bank card
1.
ATM card, bank card, cash card
A card issued by a bank that allows the holder to withdraw cash and check balances at ATMs. Distinct from a credit card.
キャッシュカードでお金を下ろす。
To withdraw money with an ATM card.
キャッシュカードの暗証番号を忘れた。
I forgot the PIN for my ATM card.
口座を開設すると、キャッシュカードが郵送されてくる。
When you open an account, the ATM card is mailed to you.
Although the word looks like 和製英語, "cash card" is used in British English as well. However, the 日本独自の用法 is specific to bank-issued ATM cards.
COMMON PATTERNS:
- キャッシュカードで下ろす: to withdraw using a cash card
- キャッシュカードを作る: to get a cash card (when opening a bank account)
NOTE:
In Japan, many banks issue combined cards (一体型カード) that function as both a キャッシュカード and a credit card. キャッシュカード by itself does not have a credit function — it only provides ATM access.
