1.
your company; your organization (honorific, spoken)
An honorific term used when speaking about the listener's company. Used in spoken conversation, especially in job interviews and business meetings.
御社の事業に興味があります。
I am interested in your company's business.
御社で働きたいと思い、応募いたしました。
I applied because I would like to work at your company.
御社の企業理念に共感し、ぜひ貢献したいと考えております。
I sympathize with your company's corporate philosophy and would very much like to contribute.
USAGE:
御社 is used in SPOKEN contexts (interviews, meetings, phone calls). For WRITTEN contexts (cover letters, emails, formal documents), use 貴社 instead. This distinction is important and frequently tested in Japanese business etiquette.
NOTE: Both words are keigo (honorific language) and should only be used to refer to someone else's company, never your own. To refer to your own company humbly, use 弊社 (our company, humble).
COMMON COLLOCATIONS:
- 御社の事業 (your company's business)
- 御社で働く (to work at your company)
- 御社に応募する (to apply to your company)
SIMILAR WORDS:
- 貴社: your company (written honorific) — used in letters and documents
- 弊社: our company (humble) — used when referring to one's own company
