To bend the body low and curl up close to the ground. Often implies being in pain, feeling cold, or trying to hide. Can also be written as 蹲る in kanji.
道端でうずくまっている人がいた。

USAGE:
Usually written in hiragana. The kanji form 蹲る exists but is rarely used. Often describes someone who is in distress (pain, cold, exhaustion) and sinks to the ground, or an animal making itself small.
