ちくしょう
interjection
damn it!; damn!
1. damn it!; damn!; blast!
An exclamation of frustration, anger, or annoyance. Originally from 畜生 (beast/brute), a Buddhist term for animals as one of the lower realms of existence. Now used as a mild to moderate swear word.
ちくしょう、また()けた!
Damn it, I lost again!
ちくしょう、財布(さいふ)(わす)れた。

ちくしょう、あいつに(さき)()されるなんて(くや)しい。
Damn it, it's so frustrating to be beaten to it by that guy.

Originally written as 畜生(ちくしょう) (beast), a Buddhist term for the animal realm, one of the six paths of reincarnation. Calling someone a 畜生(ちくしょう) was a strong insult ("you beast"). Now it is mainly used as a standalone exclamation of frustration, roughly equivalent to "damn!" in English.

Stronger than くそ in some speakers' usage, but generally considered a mild swear word. More commonly used by men. Shortened forms include ちくしょー and ちっくしょー.
