This author has produced a great many works.

数多(かずおお)くの is a somewhat formal way to say "many" or "numerous," more literary and emphatic than 多(おお)くの or たくさんの.

Always modifies a noun: 数多(かずおお)くの問題(もんだい) (numerous problems)
Can also be used adverbially without の: 数多(かずおお)く存在(そんざい)する (to exist in large numbers)

数多(あまた) — a more literary/archaic reading with the same meaning. 数多(あまた)の困難(こんなん) (numerous hardships).

Written language, speeches, and formal contexts. Rare in casual conversation.
