2. to experience (suru verb)

When used as a suru verb, means 'to experience' or 'to go through.'

初(はじ)めて経験(けいけん)した。

I experienced it for the first time.

I'd like to try experiencing life abroad.

I had never experienced a big earthquake before, so it was very scary.

経験(けいけん) is used for personal experiences.

Common patterns:

～の経験(けいけん)がある (to have experience of)
経験(けいけん)を積(つ)む (to gain experience)
経験者(けいけんしゃ) (experienced person). Compare with 体験(たいけん) (firsthand experience, often for specific events or activities).
