Named after the 今川橋 (Imagawa Bridge) area in Edo, where it is said to have originated. This food has many regional names across Japan: 大判焼き (Kansai and other regions), 回転焼き (Kansai), 太鼓焼き (some regions), 御座候 (brand name popular in Kansai). The most common filling is 粒あん (chunky red bean paste) or こしあん (smooth red bean paste), but modern variations include カスタードクリーム (custard cream) and チョコレート (chocolate).
