プロフィール写真(しゃしん)

A compound of the loanword プロフィール (profile) and 写真(しゃしん) (photograph). Often abbreviated to プロフィール画像(がぞう) (profile image) or shortened to プロフ写真(しゃしん) in casual speech. On LINE and other Japanese messaging apps, the term アイコン is also commonly used to refer to one's profile picture.

In Japan, 履歴書(りれきしょ) (resumes) traditionally require a formal photo, which is a different concept from a social media profile photo but may be referred to similarly.
