A running spoken explanation accompanying an event, broadcast, film, or game. コメンタリー most often refers to sports/event play-by-play, audio commentary tracks on DVDs and streaming releases, or behind-the-scenes commentary by directors and creators. As a loanword it has a slightly modern, media-industry feel and is more common than 解説(かいせつ) in entertainment contexts.
