いざ is an interjection expressing resolve at the moment of starting a decisive action — roughly 'now then' or 'here goes.' On its own it can sound slightly dramatic or old-fashioned.

FIXED EXPRESSIONS:

  • いざという(とき): when the time comes; in an emergency
  • いざとなれば/いざとなったら: if it comes to it; when push comes to shove
  • いざ出発(しゅっぱつ): now, let's set off

USAGE:
The standalone interjection is most common in speeches, narration, or moments of determination. The (とき)・となれば patterns are everyday and very common.
