current account; checking account
A bank account used for day-to-day business payments, typically settled by check and earning no interest.
会社の当座預金から支払った。
I paid from the company's current account.
当座預金には利息がつかない。
A current account earns no interest.
取引先への支払いは当座預金を使っている。
We use a current account for payments to business partners.
Two related senses. The core idea is the immediate here and now; the banking sense names the account used for everyday, immediate payments.
SENSE 1 — for the time being:
Often used attributively as 当座の (immediate; current) or adverbially.
- 当座の間に合わせ: a stopgap; a makeshift measure
- 当座しのぎ: a temporary fix
SENSE 2 — current account:
- 当座預金: a current (checking) account
- 当座小切手: a current-account check
