The portion of a company's funding that does not have to be repaid — paid-in capital plus retained earnings — as opposed to 他人資本, money raised by borrowing.
Literally "one's own capital". On a Japanese balance sheet it corresponds broadly to net assets: what would be left for shareholders after all liabilities were settled.
