An argument or outlook holding that a situation will turn out badly. Used of a stated position in debate — on the economy, the environment, a company's prospects — rather than of a person's temperament.
悲観論(ひかんろん)が広(ひろ)がっている。
Pessimism is spreading.
景気(けいき)については悲観論(ひかんろん)が強(つよ)い。
Pessimism about the economy is strong.
悲観論(ひかんろん)に傾(かたむ)くのは簡単(かんたん)だが、それでは何(なに)も変(か)わらない。

悲観(ひかん) (pessimism) + 論(ろん) (argument, theory). The 〜論(ろん) ending makes it a position that can be held, stated, and argued against.
