Describes something undergoing change by itself (intransitive). The transitive counterpart is 変(か)える (to change something).

季節(きせつ)が変(か)わりました。

The season has changed.

The weather changed quickly.

Has your address changed?

My phone number changed, so I told my friends and family the new number.

The area in front of the station has changed a lot in these ten years. Many new stores have opened and there are more people.

TRANSITIVITY: 自動詞(じどうし) (intransitive). Pair: 変(か)える (transitive, to change something). Pattern: Xが変(か)わる.

ASPECT: ている indicates resulting state. 変(か)わっている = 'has changed/is different.'
