1. to decide; to settle; to be decided
To bring a contest, vote, or question to a conclusion, or (intransitively) for it to be settled. A written, formal word used in fixed phrases: 勝負(しょうぶ)を決(けっ)する, 意(い)を決(けっ)する (to make up one's mind).
I made up my mind and confessed my feelings.
最後(さいご)の一球(いっきゅう)で勝負(しょうぶ)が決(けっ)した。
The game was decided by the final pitch.
An important meeting that will decide the company's future is to be held next week.

Conjugates like する: 決(けっ)した, 決(けっ)して, 決(けっ)すれば. Do not confuse the て-form in 意(い)を決(けっ)して (having made up one's mind) with the adverb 決(けっ)して (never), which comes from the same verb but is now a separate word.
