Directly in front, face to face. Used almost only in adverbial phrases: 真(ま)っ向(こう)から (head-on, flatly) and 真(ま)っ向(こう)勝負(しょうぶ) (a head-on contest), for confronting something openly and without evasion.
真(ま)っ向(こう)から反対(はんたい)する。
To oppose flatly.
二人(ふたり)の意見(いけん)が真(ま)っ向(こう)から対立(たいりつ)した。
The two of them had directly opposing views.
