space, room, area
An available area or room, either physical (a place to put things, parking space) or typographic (a blank space between characters).
Usage
スペース covers both physical space (収納スペース = storage space, 駐車スペース = parking space) and typographic space (スペースを入れる = to insert a space). It is generally interchangeable with 場所 for physical space, but スペース emphasizes the available area.
Note: スペース does not typically mean "outer space" (that is 宇宙).
