Existing in a hidden or dormant state, not yet manifested or visible on the surface. Used for abilities, risks, demand, and other things that have not yet become apparent.

潜在 describes something that exists in a hidden or dormant state, not yet visible on the surface. It is used as a noun or with する, but most commonly appears as the modifier 潜在的(な).
