Formed from 全般 (the whole, everything) + 的 (adjectival suffix) + に (adverbial particle). Often placed at the beginning of a sentence or before a verb/adjective to qualify a broad judgment. The base adjective form 全般的な can also modify nouns: 全般的な傾向 (overall tendency).
