〜にて

A formal particle that is the classical/literary equivalent of で. It was the standard form in classical Japanese and survives in modern formal contexts. It can indicate location (where something happens) and means/method (how something is done).

Usage

• Replaces で in formal written contexts: announcements, business correspondence, official notices
• Very common in event announcements: ～にて開催(かいさい) (held at ~)
• Common in business communication: メールにて, 書面(しょめん)にて, 電話(でんわ)にて
• Sounds overly formal or archaic in casual conversation
• Sometimes seen at the end of letters or messages: 東京(とうきょう)にて (written in Tokyo)
