1.
the insured; insured person
The person covered by an insurance policy — that is, the person whose life, health, property, or circumstances are the subject of the contract. Distinguished from the 契約者 (the policyholder who signs the contract and pays the premiums) and the 受取人 (the beneficiary who receives any payout).

Please fill in the name of the insured.
被保険者が入院した場合、給付金が支払われる。
If the insured is hospitalized, benefits will be paid.
生命保険では契約者と被保険者が同一人物でない場合もある。
In life insurance, the policyholder and the insured are not always the same person.
Composed of 被 (passive prefix, "the one receiving") + 保険 ("insurance") + 者 ("person"), literally "the person who is insured." A standard legal/insurance term appearing on policy documents, enrollment forms, and social-insurance cards (e.g., 健康保険被保険者証, the health-insurance card).
USAGE:
- In life insurance, the 被保険者 is the person whose life is covered; their death or illness triggers the payout.
- In health insurance, the 被保険者 is the enrolled employee; their dependents are called 被扶養者.
- Forms often ask for 被保険者氏名 (name of the insured) separately from the applicant.
