Thick, sweetened concentrated milk in a tube or can. In Japan the term almost always refers to the sweetened version; unsweetened concentrated milk is called 無糖(むとう)練乳(れんにゅう) or エバミルク.

Loanword from English "condensed milk." In Japanese culinary usage the native term 練乳(れんにゅう) is at least as common, and many home recipes alternate between the two. Both nearly always mean the sweetened type.
