mozuku (a slender, slippery brown seaweed)
A thin, ropy edible seaweed (Cladosiphon okamuranus and related species). Famous as a specialty of Okinawa, where it is widely cultivated.
Almost always written in hiragana or katakana (モズク). The kanji form 水雲 exists but is rarely seen. Most commonly eaten as もずく酢 — a small cup of mozuku in sweetened vinegar — sold ready-made in supermarkets.
