The single prison sentence in Japanese criminal law since June 2025, which replaced the two older sentences 懲役(ちょうえき) (imprisonment with labor) and 禁錮(きんこ) (imprisonment without labor). Work and rehabilitation programs are assigned to fit each prisoner.
