1. to arrive, to reach

Used when someone or something arrives at a destination. This is the standard verb for expressing arrival at a place. Takes the particle に to mark the destination.

駅(えき)に着(つ)きました。

I arrived at the station.

何時(なんじ)に東京(とうきょう)に着(つ)きますか。

What time will you arrive in Tokyo?

飛行機(ひこうき)が空港(くうこう)に着(つ)いた。

The airplane arrived at the airport.

会社(かいしゃ)に着(つ)いたら電話(でんわ)してください。

Please call me when you arrive at the office.

友達(ともだち)の家(いえ)に着(つ)いたら、もう皆(みんな)が待(ま)っていました。

When I arrived at my friend's house, everyone was already waiting.

TRANSITIVITY: 自動詞(じどうし) (intransitive). No pair verb. Pattern: Xに着(つ)く (arrive at X).

ASPECT: ている indicates resulting state. 着(つ)いている = 'has arrived' (is at the destination now).

COMMON PATTERNS:

駅(えき)に着(つ)く (arrive at the station)
家(いえ)に着(つ)く (arrive home)
時間(じかん)どおりに着(つ)く (arrive on time)
無事(ぶじ)に着(つ)いた (arrived safely)

Different from 付(つ)く (stick to), 就(つ)く (assume position). Destination uses に.
