Potential form

Watch out

The question or request takes に (質問(しつもん)に答(こた)える), not を; を marks only the content given as the answer (名前(なまえ)を答(こた)える, to give one's name). Answering a ringing telephone is 電話(でんわ)に出(で)る, never 答(こた)える. 答(こた)える is only for replying to a question or request.
