Indicates exclusion of what precedes it.
日曜日(にちようび)以外(いがい)は毎日(まいにち)働(はたら)いています。
I work every day except Sunday.
これ以外(いがい)に方法(ほうほう)はない。

私(わたし)以外(いがい)誰(だれ)もいなかった。
There was no one besides me.

以外(いがい) means 'other than' or 'except.'
