誰か = someone

誰も + negative = no one

(だれ) is one of the fundamental question words, used to ask about the identity of a person.

POLITENESS LEVELS:

  • (だれ): standard/casual
  • どなた: polite form (used with customers, superiors)
  • どちらさま: very polite (formal situations)

DERIVED EXPRESSIONS:

  • (だれ): someone, somebody
  • (だれ) + negative: no one, nobody
  • (だれ) + positive: everyone (literary)
  • (だれ)でも: anyone, everybody

COMMON PATTERNS:

  • (だれ) + verb: Who did X?
  • (だれ) + noun: Whose X?
  • (だれ): to whom?

NOTE:
In indirect questions, (だれ) can appear mid-sentence: (だれ)()()からない (I don't know who's coming).
