2. to follow, to continue
To come after something.
伝統(でんとう)を継(つ)ぐ。
To carry on a tradition.
先輩(せんぱい)の意志(いし)を継(つ)いで活動(かつどう)を続(つづ)ける。
To carry on the senior's wishes and continue the activities.
彼(かれ)は師匠(ししょう)の技(わざ)を継(つ)いだ。
He inherited his master's technique.

継(つ)ぐ means to succeed or take over something from a predecessor.
