木曜(もくよう)

Short form of 木曜日(もくようび). Both forms are common; 木曜(もくよう) is slightly more casual.

ETYMOLOGY:
The kanji 木(もく) means "wood/tree" and comes from the Chinese 五行(ごぎょう) (five elements) system, which also influenced the naming of the other days of the week.

• 日曜(にちよう)（日(にち)）: Sunday
• 月曜(げつよう)（月(げつ)）: Monday
• 火曜(かよう)（火(か)）: Tuesday
• 水曜(すいよう)（水(すい)）: Wednesday
• 木曜(もくよう)（木(もく)）: Thursday
• 金曜(きんよう)（金(きん)）: Friday
• 土曜(どよう)（土(ど)）: Saturday

USAGE:
Use the particle に when specifying a day: 木曜(もくよう)に会(あ)う (meet on Thursday). In scheduling contexts, the short abbreviation 木(もく) is also common: 木(もく)・金(きん) (Thu/Fri).
