2. beam, girder
A horizontal structural beam in construction, particularly in traditional Japanese buildings.
橋(はし)の桁(けた)を修理(しゅうり)する。
Repair the girder of the bridge.
古(ふる)い神社(じんじゃ)の桁(けた)が腐(くさ)って危険(きけん)な状態(じょうたい)だった。
The beams of the old shrine had rotted and were in a dangerous condition.
