1. pardon; forgiveness; understanding; forbearance
Formal/honorific expression asking for forgiveness or understanding.
We apologize for the inconvenience; please bear with us.
Please understand if items are out of stock.
We humbly ask for your forgiveness.

Common patterns

(honorific prefix) + 容赦(ようしゃ) (pardon, leniency).

Register

Very formal, and directed outward from an organization to its customers or audience. Learners will meet it far more often reading than speaking — in service announcements, business correspondence, official apologies, and posted notices. It is not used between friends.

What IT actually asks for

Despite the "forgiveness" gloss, ご容赦(ようしゃ)ください rarely follows a real wrongdoing. It asks the reader to accept an inconvenience in advance — a delay, a shortage, a limit on service — and is closer to English "please bear with us" or "we appreciate your understanding."
