Watch out

Everyday speech in Japan uses ビザ for one's permission to live there (ビザの更新(こうしん), renewing a visa), but officially that is 在留資格(ざいりゅうしかく) (residence status); ビザ in the strict sense is the entry permit, officially 査証(さしょう). Don't confuse ビザ with ピザ (pizza).
