To carry something and come with it to the speaker's location. A compound of 持つ (to hold) + くる (to come).
傘を持ってきた。
I brought an umbrella.
明日、写真を持ってきてください。
Please bring the photos tomorrow.
友達がお土産を持ってきてくれた。
My friend brought me a souvenir.
CONJUGATION:
Conjugates as くる (irregular): 持ってくる → 持ってきた (past) → 持ってこない (negative) → 持ってきて (te-form).
CONTRAST WITH 持っていく:
- 持ってくる: to bring (toward the speaker)
- 持っていく: to take (away from the speaker)
TRANSITIVITY:
Transitive. Takes を for the object being brought.
ASPECT:
持ってきている means someone has already brought something and it is here now.
