A creative professional, especially a musician, singer, or performing artist. In Japanese, this term is used more broadly than in English and is the default way to refer to musicians and singers.

Usage

In Japanese, アーティスト primarily refers to musicians, singers, and performing artists rather than visual artists. When referring to a painter or sculptor, 芸術家(げいじゅつか) or 画家(がか) is more common. For visual art in general, アート is used.
