A car came from the opposite direction on a narrow road, so I backed up to let it pass.
USAGE:
バック has several distinct uses in Japanese. As a background/support word, it often appears in the pattern ～をバックに (with ~ as a backdrop) or バックがつく (to have backing). As a driving term, バックする is the standard way to say "to reverse" a vehicle.
NOTE ON MEANING:
バック does not mean "bag" in Japanese — that word is バッグ (baggu). The two are commonly confused by learners.
