A traditional Japanese dish where tofu, eggplant, konnyaku, or other ingredients are skewered and grilled with a sweet miso glaze. Named after a traditional rice-planting dance because the skewered food resembles performers on stilts.

USAGE:
Usually preceded by the ingredient name: 豆腐(とうふ)田楽(でんがく) (tofu dengaku), 茄子(なす)田楽(でんがく) (eggplant dengaku), こんにゃく田楽(でんがく) (konnyaku dengaku). The miso glaze can be white miso, red miso, or a blend, sometimes with added sweetness from sugar or mirin.
