House of Representatives, lower house of the Japanese parliament
The lower chamber of the National Diet (parliament) of Japan. It has greater legislative power than the House of Councillors, including the ability to override the upper house and the power to choose the Prime Minister.

USAGE:
The Japanese parliament (国会) consists of two chambers: the 衆議院 (House of Representatives, lower house) and the 参議院 (House of Councillors, upper house). The 衆議院 has 優越 (supremacy) in matters such as budget approval and treaty ratification. Members serve four-year terms, but the chamber can be dissolved for snap elections.
