hard to sleep; unable to sleep comfortably; restless

During the rainy season, there are many nights where it's too humid to sleep well.
Almost exclusively used to describe difficulty sleeping due to heat or humidity, especially during Japanese summers. The most common collocation is 寝苦しい夜 (a restless/sleepless night), frequently heard in weather forecasts: 今夜も寝苦しい夜になるでしょう (Tonight will be another uncomfortable night for sleeping). Part of the ~苦しい pattern meaning 'hard to do ~,' like 見苦しい (unsightly), 聞き苦しい (unpleasant to hear).
