Usage
In Japan, 火災保険 is practically required for both homeowners and renters. Most rental contracts require tenants to purchase fire insurance. Despite the name, Japanese fire insurance policies often include coverage for wind damage, water damage, and other perils — though earthquake coverage (地震保険) is a separate add-on.
