学位論文(がくいろんぶん)

Composed of 学位(がくい) (academic degree) and 論文(ろんぶん) (thesis, paper). The umbrella term for theses written to fulfill degree requirements at any level. In practice, 修士論文(しゅうしろんぶん) (master's thesis) and 博士論文(はくしろんぶん) (doctoral dissertation) are more specific and frequently used when the level is known.
