In sports such as soccer and rugby, the state of a player being in a legal position on the field, that is, not offside. It is the opposite of offside.
選手(せんしゅ)オンサイドだった。
The player was onside.
A pass that was just barely onside got through.
The referee judged that the player was onside at the moment of the goal.

A loanword from English "onside," used mainly in soccer and rugby. It describes a player in a legal position, in contrast to being offside.
