Describes someone or something that stirs bitter envy — wanting what another has, mixed with resentment that they have it. Stronger and more negative than 羨(うらや)ましい.
彼(かれ)の成功(せいこう)が妬(ねた)ましい。
I'm resentfully envious of his success.
