At the start of a sentence, なので links to the previous statement and introduces its result or conclusion, much like "so" or "that's why" in English.
なので、行(い)きません。
So, I won't go.
なので、今日(きょう)は早(はや)く寝(ね)ます。
So, I'll go to bed early today.
雨(あめ)が降(ふ)っている。なので、試合(しあい)は中止(ちゅうし)だ。
It's raining. So the match is canceled.
2. because (it) is; since (it) is
Following a noun or na-adjective, なので gives a reason (the copula な plus the particle ので). It states a cause more softly and politely than だから.
休(やす)みなので、出(で)かけます。
Since it's a day off, I'll go out.
静(しず)かなので、よく眠(ねむ)れる。
Because it's quiet, I can sleep well.
初(はじ)めてなので、少(すこ)し緊張(きんちょう)しています。
Because it's my first time, I'm a little nervous.

Sentence-initial なので (sense 1) is common in casual writing and speech, though some prescriptivists dislike starting a sentence with it; in formal writing そのため or したがって is preferred.

After a noun or na-adjective (sense 2), use な before ので: 学生(がくせい)なので, 元気(げんき)なので. After plain-form verbs and i-adjectives, use ので alone: 行(い)くので, 高(たか)いので.
