The proportion of people who die among those who catch a disease or suffer a particular injury. A medical and public-health term, common in news about epidemics.
致死 (causing death) + 率 (rate, ratio). Counts deaths only among people who actually contracted the disease, which is why the figure is often much larger than a mortality rate for the whole population.
