1. to be hurried; to feel rushed; to be impatient
For a person's mind or breathing to be driven forward by impatience. Intransitive, and most often used of () (one's feelings) or (いき) (one's breath).
I feel rushed and can't settle down.
My breath came short after I climbed the stairs.
As the deadline drew near I grew impatient and forgot to check the details.

An older, somewhat literary verb that survives mainly in set phrases. It describes the internal feeling of being hurried, not the act of hurrying.
